My Experience, Your Results
I started my career working as a creditor's attorney. This experience gave me an understanding of repossession, foreclosure and other methods that creditors use to collect debts. Between my time as a creditor's attorney and my current practice, I had the opportunity to work with a prominent debtor’s lawyer, the late Barbara McDonald Griffin.
Working for creditors, I had the misconception that people who filed bankruptcy were people who simply didn’t want to pay their debts, people who were out to “beat the system”. Working with Ms. Griffin, I got a different perspective: People who owe money are almost always well-meaning and responsible, and have simply endured an unfortunate turn of events. Today, Barbara Griffin is missed by everyone who knew her. But as I help my clients, I never forget what she taught me about bankruptcy law and about the importance of putting people first.
How Can My Location Save You Money?
In Kentucky, the Federal Bankruptcy Court is broken into two divisions: Eastern and Western. The Eastern District is broken into six divisions, including the Lexington Division. The Lexington Division serves twenty-two counties. If you live in an outlying county in the Lexington Division, Breathitt or Lawrence County for instance, you and your attorney will have to travel to Lexington at least once to meet with your bankruptcy trustee. Paying for an attorney's travel time can significantly increase the amount of your bill.
My law office is located in Lexington. No matter where in the Lexington Division you live, I will never have to travel farther than across the street to handle your case. Because of this, you will never have to pay me an expensive fee just to travel to the courthouse. Helping people save money is at the heart of my bankruptcy practice. This is just one more way in which I can help my clients keep legal costs manageable, and help them put their debt problems behind them for good.
