United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky

Kentucky has two federal judicial districts, Eastern and Western. Each district is further divided into geographical divisions. Fayette and twenty-two surrounding counties make up the Lexington Division of the Eastern District of Kentucky. The Court's official website is here.

Credit Report

You may wish to obtain a copy of your credit report before you file bankruptcy to assist in listing all of your creditors. Federal law provides that you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus once a year. You can obtain free copies of your credit reports here.

Credit Counseling

In order to file a bankruptcy under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, you must first complete a credit counseling course through an agency authorized to provide counseling on the Eastern District of Kentucky. The counseling can be completed over the phone or over the Internet. Fees for the required counseling vary among the authorized agencies, but typically run between $15.00 and $50,00. Debtor Education

After you file your bankruptcy, you must complete a course in financial management to qualify to receive a discharge of your debts. A list of agencies qualified to offer this debtor education course can be found here.
